The Churches, Whakarewarewa Maori Village

The Church of Immaculate Conception



The village chief called all the families to a gathering at their Marae (meeting place). Once there he said that this half (he pointed out the right hand side) were to become Anglicans and the other half(the left hand side) were to become Catholics.  And that was how the religion of the very small village was decided.
